Controversies & Scandals

Jeffrey Bruce Atkins, Aisha’s husband, has had several run-ins with the law throughout the 2000s. In 2003, he was fined $1,200 for punching a man in Toronto. In 2004, he was investigated in connection with a feud that led to a fatal shooting outside a nightclub party he hosted. He was also arrested in 2004 for driving with a suspended license and possessing marijuana. However, the most significant incident was his arrest in July 2007 on gun and drug possession charges, along with Lil Wayne and Don Rhys. Despite his argument that the gun was illegally obtained evidence, he pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a weapon and was sentenced to two years in prison on December 13, 2010.

Jeffrey began serving his sentence in Rikers Island in June 2011 but was later transferred to a state facility in Upstate New York. In July, he received an additional 28-month prison sentence for tax evasion. After his initial release from state prison on February 21, 2013, he was taken into federal custody to serve six more months for tax evasion. However, he was eventually released early on May 7, 2013. During this time, Aisha faced rumors of her husband’s adultery, including reports of a homosexual relationship with a prison inmate and ongoing involvement with author Karrine Steffans. Aisha refuted some of these rumors in an interview with ‘TMZ’ and continued to visit her husband regularly despite the long journey. After his release, there were claims that he was leaving his family for a prison cellmate, but he dismissed these rumors and even posted a picture of them kissing on Instagram to put the rumors to rest.
