AnnMaria De Mars Biography

AnnMaria De Mars is an accomplished American former judoka, CEO of The Julia Group and 7 Generation Games, and a Native American Activist. She has authored grants for numerous Native American programs and has served as Vice President of Spirit Lake Consulting Inc. De Mars is also the proud mother of María Burns Ortiz, a sports journalist, and Ronda Rousey, an Olympic medallist judoka. She made history as the first American to win a gold medal at the World Judo Championships in the 56 kg weight class. In recognition of her achievements in innovation and disruption after the age of 40, De Mars was named in Forbes’ prestigious list of ’40 Women to Watch Over 40′ in 2013.

Career as a Judoka

AnnMaria De Mars began her judo career at the age of 12. By the time she was 16, she had already won her division at the USJA Junior Nationals. Her success continued as she went on to win the US Collegiate Nationals, US Senior Nationals, and US Open. In 1981, De Mars received the bronze medal at the British Open. She also performed well in the Pan American Games and the US Senior Nationals in 1983. In 1984, she had an exceptional year, winning the Austrian Open, Canada Cup, and the US Senior Nationals. That same year, she represented the USA at the World Judo Championships and won a gold medal. After her retirement, she began coaching her daughter Ronda.

Teacher, Writer, and Entrepreneur

In 1990, AnnMaria De Mars started working for Spirit Lake Reservation, where she performed evaluations for various programs. In 2002, she co-founded Spirit Lake Consulting, Inc. and went on to establish two more companies: 7 Generation Games and The Julia Group. 7 Generation Games focuses on developing educational video games, while The Julia Group provides statistics and mathematics consulting services. De Mars is a full-time developer at 7 Generation Games and has also worked as a statistical consultant for academic institutions and corporate organizations. She has extensive experience in SAS and has contributed to Wiki and Blog pages. As a writer, she has published articles in scientific and academic journals and books. She has also given lectures on various subjects, including software development, education technology, and statistical analysis.

Personal Life

AnnMaria De Mars was born on August 15, 1958, in Scott Air Force Base, USA. She graduated from Washington University with a degree in business and later pursued her MBA. She also earned MA and PhD degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of California. De Mars was previously married to Ronald Rousey and has three daughters. After her husband’s death, she remarried and had a fourth daughter.
