Career Transition and Struggles

CareerTaz graduated from Cardiff University with a law degree in 2015, hoping that it would lead her to her true passion and career path. However, she soon realized that law was not something she was passionate about and couldn’t see herself practicing it for the rest of her life. She found herself at a crossroads, torn between continuing down the path she was trained for or taking some time off to figure out her true passion. This transition was terrifying for her, as she had always been encouraged to have a clear plan for her future.

Discovering Spoken Word Poetry

During this uncertain period, a friend introduced CareerTaz to spoken word poetry. Intrigued, she delved into the subject and was captivated by how poets could transform their emotions into powerful and impactful pieces. One night, feeling depressed, she composed her first poem. She shared it with her friends and eventually posted it online, which turned out to be a life-changing decision for her.

YouTube Channel and Poetry

In 2012, CareerTaz set up a YouTube channel and began posting videos. From late 2015 onwards, she started sharing her poetry on the platform. Some of her popular poems include ‘I Hate Myself,’ ‘Depression,’ ‘Fat,’ ‘Expectations,’ ‘It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,’ ‘Existential Crisis,’ ‘Anxiety,’ and ‘I Got Help.’ Her poetry draws heavily from her childhood experiences and the transitional period of her life when she was unsure of her career path. She also addresses mental illnesses, societal pressure, and body image issues that affect the modern generation.

Personal Life and Cultural Identity

CareerTaz was born on October 27, 1993, in Cardiff, Wales. Not much is known about her family, except that they are South Asians. She had a rough childhood and carried many insecurities into her adulthood. In one of her videos, she mentioned growing up wanting to be white because she lacked a South Asian role model in pop culture. This led her to reject aspects of her own culture. As she grew older, she educated herself about racism and worked to break down the barriers she had built around herself.

Other Endeavors

Aside from her poetry, CareerTaz is also a frequent vlogger and creates challenges and mukbang videos. She created a second channel for vlogging in 2015 but has not posted anything on it yet. In February 2018, she spoke at the TEDxTUM conference in Munich, Germany.
