Dustin Johnson was born on June 22, 1984, in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. His father, Scott Johnson, was the head professional golfer at the Mid Carolina Club. Dustin was introduced to golf by his father at the age of six and quickly developed a passion for the game. He became an amateur golfer and joined the Irmo High School varsity team while in seventh grade. At the age of fourteen, he set records at two golf clubs and won the state junior championship.
Dustin’s parents divorced in the late 1990s, and he and his sister Laurie stayed with their father while his brother Austin moved in with their mother. The divorce had a negative impact on Dustin, and he transferred to Dutch Fork High School. During his sophomore year, he started skipping school and got involved in a burglary attempt. He was arrested but released after paying restitution. In his senior year, Dustin realized the importance of studying if he wanted to play on the PGA Tour, so he worked hard to improve his grades.
After graduating from high school, Dustin Johnson enrolled in Coastal Carolina University to study Sports Management.
