Childhood & Early Life
Elizabeth Warren was born as Elizabeth Ann Herring on June 22, 1949, in Oklahoma. She was the fourth child of Pauline and Donald Jones Herring and had three older brothers. Raised as a Methodist, her family initially lived in Norman before moving to Oklahoma City. Elizabeth started working as a waitress at the age of 13 to help support her family. She attended Northwest Classen High School and her debating skills earned her a scholarship to George Washington University. However, she left the university to marry her high school boyfriend and moved to Houston. She later enrolled at the University of Houston and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Science specializing in speech pathology and audiology.
Career
Elizabeth Warren began her academic career at Rutgers University, where she worked as a lecturer from 1977 to 1978. She then moved to the University of Houston Law Center, where she served as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs from 1978 to 1983. She went on to teach at the University of Texas School of Law from 1983 to 1987. In 1987, she joined the University of Pennsylvania Law School as the William A Schnader Professor of Commercial Law. She also taught at Harvard Law School as a visiting professor in 1992 before becoming the Leo Gottileb Professor of Law in 1995. Throughout her career, she specialized in commercial law and bankruptcy and advised various organizations and committees on these topics.

Elizabeth Warren’s political career began in 2011 when she announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts. She defeated the Republican incumbent Scott Brown and became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts. In the Senate, she served on the Banking Committee and became known for her tough questioning of banks and banking regulators. She also introduced legislation to address issues such as student loan interest rates and conflicts of interest in the presidency. In 2019, she announced her candidacy for the office of the President of the USA as the candidate of the Democratic Party.
