Career & Fame

Gaston Bolanos began his Muay Thai journey at the age of 10 at the ‘F-14 School of Champions’ in Lima, Peru. His natural talent quickly became evident as he started winning junior amateur fights. At 13, he moved to California with his father and found a training gym called ‘Fairtex Mountain View’ near his home. Without hesitation, he started training there under the guidance of professional trainers Jongsanan Fairtex and Kirian Fitzgibbons. This marked the beginning of his long-term partnership with Fitzgibbons, who continues to be his coach and guardian.

At 16, Bolanos earned the nickname ‘The Dreamkiller’ for his attitude. After participating in the ‘2008 IFMA World Championships’ in Busan, South Korea, he decided to pursue combat sports as a full-time profession. However, being a minor, he needed a legal guardian, and his father was planning to move back to Peru. Kirian Fitzgibbons stepped in and became Bolanos’ legal guardian, allowing him to finish high school. Bolanos then moved to Dublin, California, to train as a professional fighter at ‘Combat Sports Academy’ under Fitzgibbons.

Despite fighting opponents twice his size and age, Bolanos emerged victorious in most of his fights. His impressive amateur record includes 23 victories, 3 losses, and 1 draw. During an amateur fight at the ‘6-Flags theme park’ in California, Bolanos’s arm was illegally injured by an older opponent who was losing. Despite the injury, Bolanos continued fighting and knocked out his opponent with a straight right cross.

Bolanos’ achievements in Muay Thai speak to his growth and skills. He is a two-time ‘South American Muay Thai Champion’ and also became the ‘United States Muay Thai Champion’, establishing himself as a formidable force in the world of kickboxing. He has represented the USA twice at the ‘IFMA World Championships’.

Once he turned professional, Bolanos made his debut against Brian Del Rosario at ‘Lion Fight 14’. He ended the fight with a devastating ‘spinning elbow’ to Rosario’s face, showcasing his signature move. In his professional kickboxing career, Bolanos has an impressive record of 8 wins and 0 losses, with his only loss against Khronpet Phetrachapet at ‘Lion Fight 27’ being overturned.

With his numerous accolades, it was only natural for Bolanos to transition to MMA. He announced on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast that he had signed with ‘Bellator MMA’. His multi-platform deal allows him to compete in both MMA and Muay Thai. Bolanos made his MMA debut against Abner Perez on February 18, 2017, winning via TKO in the first round. Although he suffered a loss in his second match against Brandon Laroco by Technical Submission on September 23, 2017, Bolanos has since bounced back with three consecutive wins against Rick Gutierrez, Malcolm Hill, and Ysidro Gutierrez at various ‘Bellator’ events.
