Career
Hasan Minhaj’s career in comedy began after watching Chris Rock’s stand-up special ‘Never Scared.’ Inspired by Rock, Minhaj started performing comedy himself. In 2008, he won a ‘Best Comic Standing’ competition, which led to opportunities to work with Gabriel Iglesias, Pablo Francisco, and Katt Williams. He then appeared on NBC’s ‘Stand-up for Diversity’ and became a finalist on the show.
In 2011, Minhaj was cast in the sitcom ‘State of Georgia’ and also had roles on MTV’s ‘Disaster Date.’ He gained further recognition by posting videos on YouTube, which eventually led to him hosting the show ‘Failosophy’ on MTV. In 2013, he starred in shows like ‘Getting On’ and ‘Arrested Development’ and hosted the documentary ‘Stand Up Planet.’ The following year, he hosted his own web series called ‘The Truth with Hasan Minhaj’ and voiced a character in the video game ‘Far Cry 4.’ He also joined the team of ‘The Daily Show.’

Hasan Minhaj was born on September 23, 1985, in Davis, California, USA. His parents, Najme and Seema, are Muslim and immigrated to Davis from India. Minhaj’s mother returned to India for eight years to complete her education, while he remained in the USA with his father. He has a sister named Ayesha Minhaj. Minhaj attended the University of California, where he studied political science.
In January 2015, Minhaj married Beena Patel, a Hindu woman. The couple welcomed their daughter in April 2018.
