Career
Isaac Carew’s interest in cooking was ignited at a young age, as his father and godfather were chefs who ran their own kitchens. He often did odd jobs at their restaurants and worked in the kitchen. As a child, Carew was only interested in Home Economics and struggled with academics due to his dyslexia. He decided to focus on cooking and studied culinary arts at Thanet College. In his late teens, he joined the Gordon Ramsay Group and trained under Michelin-star chef Angela Hartnett at The Connaught in Mayfair. He considers Hartnett his mentor and attributes his success to this period of his life. Carew also pursued a career in modeling to supplement his income and became one of the most popular models in the industry, working with renowned photographers and appearing in campaigns for top brands.
The Dirty Dishes Blog and YouTube Channel
In 2016, Carew created ‘The Dirty Dishes’ blog and later a YouTube channel. He noticed a lack of recipes that focused on comfort food for millennials without following fads and market trends. His video tutorials showcased the dishes he loved growing up and became a huge hit. In 2017, he was invited to feature in the Channel 4 series ‘Tried and Tested: The Ultimate Shopping List with Michel Roux Jr.’ where he served as Michel Roux Jr’s right-hand man, traveling across Britain to discover the best food and drink options.
‘The Dirty Dishes’ Book and Future Plans
Carew is currently working on his book ‘The Dirty Dishes,’ which is set to be published in early 2019. The book will feature 100 easy-to-make recipes. His long-term plan involves owning his own restaurant in Soho, where he aims to create an intimate space where people can enjoy the comfort of his food.
Other Initiatives
Carew also founded his own label called ‘Mercy & Wild’ with Ty Akingbola, a marketing guru. The brand offers a variety of shirts and does not follow any fashion trends. Over 25% of the proceeds from the brand go to various fundraisers and charities.
