Jacqueline Fernandez is a Sri Lankan actress and former model who has made a significant impact in the Indian film industry. Childhood & Early Life

Jacqueline Fernandez was born on August 11, 1985, in Manama, Bahrain, to Elroy and Kim Fernandez. She grew up in a multi-ethnic family, with her father being Sri Lankan and her mother being part Malaysian and part Canadian. She is the youngest of four children, with two brothers and another sister. From a young age, Fernandez had aspirations of becoming a Hollywood star.

Education and Early Career

Fernandez attended the Sacred Heart School in Bahrain for her early education. She later enrolled in the University of Sydney to study mass communication. After graduating, she moved to Sri Lanka where she worked as a television reporter. During this time, she also learned Spanish and improved her French and Arabic language skills.

Reporting & Modelling Career

While working as a reporter, Fernandez started accepting modelling gigs. In 2006, she won the Miss Universe Sri Lanka pageant and represented Sri Lanka at the Miss Universe 2006 pageant in Los Angeles. She worked as a professional model for the next three years and participated in various commercial campaigns.

Acting Career

In 2009, Fernandez traveled to India for a modelling assignment and took acting lessons under British-Indian theatre director Barry John. She auditioned for the film ‘Aladin’ and landed the role of the female protagonist, Jasmine. The film was released in 2009 but was a critical and commercial failure. Despite the criticism, Fernandez won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female for her performance.

Fernandez went on to appear in several films, including ‘Murder 2’ (2011), ‘Housefull 2’ (2012), and ‘Kick’ (2014), which was the biggest blockbuster of her career. She also made a special guest appearance in the song ‘Ek Do Teen’ in the film ‘Baaghi 2’ (2018).

Philanthropic Works

Fernandez is involved with several charities and causes. In 2011, she wrote a letter to the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner requesting a ban on horse-driven carriages in the city on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She has also worked with PETA to advocate for the transfer of an elephant from the Manila Zoo to a safe habitat.

In 2014, Fernandez was honored with the “Woman of the Year” accolade by PETA. She has also participated in fundraising campaigns for children’s education and for the victims of the 2015 South Indian floods.

Personal Life

Fernandez previously dated Bahraini prince Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa for three years. She also had a relationship with director Sajid Khan while filming ‘Housefull 2’, but they split in 2013.


Fernandez is a foodie and finds cooking to be therapeutic. Her favorite cuisine is French.
