Childhood & Early Life

Jahkoy Palmer was born on March 23, 1994, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised in the west side of Toronto, known as the Jane and Finch area. Palmer had an unstable childhood, living periodically with his mother, father, and grandmother. He attended ‘Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic’ school and also spent time at Lawrence Heights and Scarborough. In high school, Palmer developed a love for Shakespeare and played the violin. At the age of 13, he delivered his first stage show at an event called ‘106 & York’ at ‘York University’ in Toronto.

Early Influences and Music Career

Palmer started composing poems and raps at the age of 11 and was influenced by artists like Pharrell Williams and Andre 3000. He began performing under the name ”Raheem” and gained recognition in Toronto, performing at events such as the ‘Manifesto Arts Festival’ and the ‘106 and York Urban Arts Festival.’ However, he soon realized the intense competition in the rap scene and decided to use his birth name as his stage pseudonym, becoming ”Jahkoy” at the age of 19.


In December 2013, Jahkoy Palmer released his debut mixtape, ‘Dying to Live Forever,’ followed by his second mixtape, ‘Forward Thinking,’ in 2014. These mixtapes showcased a shift in his sound and content, with Palmer transitioning from predominantly rapping to predominantly singing. He then moved to Los Angeles to reach a broader audience and worked on a publishing deal with ‘1916 Management.’ In 2015, he released two non-album singles, ‘Still in Love’ and ‘Hold Your Hand,’ which gained attention from notable figures in the music industry.

In 2016, Jahkoy signed a contract with ‘Def Jam Recordings’ and released his first single under the label, titled ‘Odd Future.’ He also collaborated with artists like Schoolboy Q, Willow Smith, and Jaden Smith. Throughout 2017, he opened for Kehlani during her ‘SweetSexySavage World Tour.’

Family & Personal Life

Jahkoy Palmer’s mother is Jamaican, while his father is from Oromo, East Africa. He is currently dating Australian ‘Instagram’ star and fitness expert Tammy Hembrow. They confirmed their relationship in June 2019 but briefly unfollowed each other on ‘Instagram’ due to the attention surrounding their relationship. They later rekindled their romance. Tammy has a son and a daughter from her previous relationship.
