Childhood & Early Life

Jess Glynne was born on October 20, 1989, in Hampstead, England, to Jewish parents Laurence Glynne and Alexandra (née Ingram). Her grandfather changed the family name from Goldstein to Glynne. She grew up in Muswell Hill, North London and attended Rhodes Avenue Primary School. She completed her A-levels from Fortismere School in 2008.

Early Career

At the age of 15, Glynne applied for the TV show “The X Factor” but left during auditions due to a disagreement with the producers. She then worked various jobs at boutiques, hairdressers, fitness centers, and an alcohol company. After traveling around different places, she took up a job in a music management company, which allowed her to stay connected with artists and the music industry. She also attended Access to Music, an east London college, where she completed a one-year music course. It was at this institute that she met songwriter Jin Jin and producer Bless Beats, with whom she later collaborated on her songs.


Glynne was approached by Black Butter Records after they heard a composition by her and Jin Jin. She signed a publishing deal with them and later signed a contract with Atlantic Records in August 2013. In 2013, she featured on Route 84’s song “My Love,” which was released on DJ Annie Mac’s compilation album.
