The family moved to Tottenham in North London soon after his birth and lived in a council house due to financial constraints. JME grew up with three siblings: brothers Joseph and Jason, and a sister, Julie. Julie went on to have a successful career in music as a DJ and radio presenter in London.

Education and Early Career

JME attended St. Paul’s School and then Winchmore School. He excelled academically and had a passion for music, but never considered pursuing it as a career. After high school, he attended the University of Greenwich, where he studied 3D and digital design. Meanwhile, his brother Joseph had already started his career as a rapper.

During his time in college, JME became influenced by the growing grime music scene in the UK. He saw the success of new grime artists and decided to give it a try.

Formation of Boy Better Know

In 2003, JME and Joseph joined the grime group Meridian, which included other successful grime artists. The group gained popularity in the London underground music scene through pirate radio. However, the group disbanded in 2005 due to legal issues involving some members. JME and Joseph decided to distance themselves from the group and formed their own group called Boy Better Know.

To support their group, JME and Joseph sold printed T-shirts and secured a regular spot on Rinse FM to promote themselves. JME also started making music of his own and released his debut album, “Famous?,” in 2008. The album was a success and helped Boy Better Know gain recognition as a label.

Music Career and Success

Following the success of his debut album, JME continued to work on his music career. He released his second album, “Blam!,” in 2010, which became his first album to chart on the UK Albums Chart. He released a compilation album titled “History” in 2011 and his third studio album, “Integrity>,” in 2015, which received critical acclaim.
