In 2011, JoJo Gomez moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school at the age of 17. Her first audition was for the MTV Video Music Awards in 2011, where she had the opportunity to be a part of the tribute to her childhood idol, Britney Spears. Following her appearance at the VMAs, she worked with Justin Bieber on ‘The Voice’ and made appearances on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and ‘Radio Disney’. Despite working constantly, she also had to perform at bar mitzvahs and other children’s events to make ends meet.
Gomez, being a Latina and not naturally skinny, started to gain weight after five years of rigorous work. This caused a decrease in the amount of work she was getting, as she was often told at auditions that she needed to lose weight. Eventually, she decided to set up her own brand and teach dance to kids at a studio in Orange County to support herself financially. She also started uploading dance videos to YouTube in 2014, hoping to inspire others in the same way she had been inspired by watching dance videos on the platform.
The positive feedback she received on her YouTube channel led to teaching requests from various dance studios, and she joined the Millennium Dance Complex as a substitute teacher. Her classes quickly grew in popularity, and she began filming them and uploading the videos to YouTube. As of 2018, she has about 500 thousand subscribers on her channel and about 60 million views. She has also worked as a choreographer for artists such as Tinashe and the Backstreet Boys.

JoJo Gomez was born on July 9, 1993, in Fairview, New Jersey. She developed a passion for dancing after attending Broadway shows with her parents as a child. By the age of 11, she had already received classical training in all areas of dance and began participating in dance competitions. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue more training, which led her to work with choreographers who had worked with top artists like Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Madonna.
Gomez has previously dated fellow dancer Donovan Okimura. She gained media attention after kissing pop star Demi Lovato at the 2018 New Year celebrations in Miami.
