Over the years, Karla played a significant role in promoting the Church of Satan. In 1970, she appeared in two documentaries that shed light on Satanism. The first documentary, titled ‘Satanis: The Devil’s Mass,’ explored the Church of Satan and its founder, Anton LaVey. The second documentary, ‘Witchcraft 70,’ provided a detailed exploration of satanic rituals from around the world. In 1993, another documentary called ‘Speak of the Devil: The Canon of Anton LaVey’ was released, focusing on the Church of Satan and its founder.

In 1979, Karla LaVey was assigned the task of overseeing the International Church of Satan headquarters in Amsterdam. Her dedication and efforts to promote the Church of Satan led to her being given the title of high priestess in the late 1970s. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she actively promoted the church on various platforms, including appearances on shows like ‘Joan Rivers Show,’ ’60 Minutes,’ ’20/20,’ and ‘Ron Reagan Show,’ where she aimed to dispel misinformation and prejudices about Satanism.

Controversy and Formation of First Satanic Church

After the death of her father in 1997, Karla LaVey’s role in the Church of Satan came under threat. Initially, it was agreed that Karla and Blanche Barton, Anton’s partner and mother of his only son, would have equal roles in running the church. However, a dispute arose when Blanche Barton claimed that Anton LaVey had left all his possessions to her. She produced a will that transferred ownership of his belongings, writings, and royalties to her. Karla contested the will, and the court ruled it invalid. The court divided Anton’s property among his three children and granted ownership of the Church of Satan to Blanche Barton.

Following the change in leadership, Karla LaVey decided to establish her own church. On October 31, 1999, she founded the First Satanic Church, headquartered in San Francisco. The primary objective of the church is to continue spreading the teachings of Anton LaVey. Members of the First Satanic Church are required to read all the books written by Anton LaVey, particularly the Satanic Bible. The church has a detailed membership process, and membership is not open to everyone.

Additionally, she hosts a radio show called ‘The Voice of Satan,’ where she discusses Satanism and plays music that she grew up listening to.
