Childhood & Early Life
Kevin Scott Nash was born on July 9, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, USA, to Robert and Wanda Nash. His family was reportedly a devout follower of Christianity. In April 1968, when he was eight years old, his father passed away from a heart attack. He completed his basic education from ‘Aquinas High School’. He attended ‘University of Tennessee’, where he was an active basketball player and even part of his college team that reached ‘NCAA Sweet 16’. But due to disagreements with the coach, he had to leave the team. Around 1980, he graduated from college with a degree in educational philosophy and psychology. From 1980-81, he played for various teams in Europe, finally ending his short-lived basketball career in Germany.
Career
From 1982-84, Kevin Nash worked in a secure NATO facility in Germany. In 1985, he reportedly moved back to the U.S. and worked odd jobs, like a factory-hand at ‘Ford Motor Company’ and floor manager at an Atlanta strip club. In 1990, he began his wrestling career with a debut at ‘WCW’s’ ‘Clash of the Champions’ and was nicknamed ‘Steel’ as part of the ‘Master Blaster’ group. He helped the group win many consecutive matches thereafter. In 1991, he wrestled under the nicknames ‘The Master Blaster’ and ‘Oz’, where he won many tag team as well as single matches. He also made his acting debut with the role of ‘Super Shredder’ in the film ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze’. In 1992, he wrestled under another gimmick name ‘Vinnie Vegas.’ In 1993, he left ‘WCW’ to join ‘WWF’ with the help of his friend, the famous wrestler, Shawn Michaels. There, he was given the nickname ‘Diesel’ and formed an onscreen partnership with Michaels. From 1993-95, his career thrived at ‘WWF’ and he won many championship titles. He also formed an offscreen, backstage group called ‘The Kliq’ with his real-life wrestling friends. In 1996, he left ‘WWF’ to go back to ‘WCW’ along with his friend, Razor Ramon (Scott Hall), sending shockwaves across the professional wrestling scene. They debuted as the group ‘The Outsiders’ and were later joined by Hulk Hogan to form the legendary group ‘nWo’ (New World Order). From 1997-2001, he continued wrestling at ‘WCW’ and won several titles. In 2002, he came back to ‘WWE’ along with his ‘nWo’ buddies, Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall. In 2004, he left ‘WWE’ to join ‘TNA’. He was also seen in the movie ‘The Punisher’ that year. In 2005, he was seen in the movie ‘The Longest Yard’. Kevin Nash continued working with ‘TNA’ on and off until 2010. From 2011-18, he continued working with independent promotions like ‘Gathering of the Juggalos’, ‘All Japan Pro Wrestling’, ‘Global Force Wrestling’, etc. and returned to ‘WWE’. In 2012, he was part of the hit movies ‘Magic Mike’ and ‘Rock of Ages’. In 2014, he was seen in the popular action movie ‘John Wick’. In 2015, he reprised his ‘Tarzan’ character in the movie ‘Magic Mike XXL’. In 1988, Kevin Nash married Tamara. The couple has a son named Tristen (born in 1996). Kevin and Tamara separated in 2000 but they reportedly reconciled shortly thereafter. In December 1994, his mother passed away after a long battle with cancer. In January 2020, he revealed that he had to undergo extensive surgery to have one of his knees replaced and realign his hips. He lives with his family near Daytona Beach, Florida.
