Childhood & Early Life

Melesha was born on December 15, 1989, in Kingshurst, Solihull, England. Her parents belonged to the Caribbean Isle of St. Kitts. Melesha grew up in a family of rappers and musicians. In 2011, she stated that her mother used to play a lot of reggae such as Bob Marley and Sister Nancy. Due to the musical environment of her house, O’Garro started writing and rapping at a very young age. She started writing poetry and rap songs at age six. She was hardly 11 when she was influenced by mc’s in the era of UK Garage Scene. By the time she was fourteen, she had already started writing her own lyrics and even released a mixtape, titled ‘Needle in a Haystack.’ She funded her mixtape all by her own. Eventually, she adopted the stage name ‘Lady Leshurr’ and started performing in various rap battles all across the UK.

Career

Her unique and vibrant performances drew a lot of attention, and soon she was signed by UK’s label ‘Colourful State.’ She supported Grime legend ‘Low Deep’ during his promotional tour for his debut album ‘Unsung,’ Leshurr started getting more recognition. She also started performing on ‘BBC,’ ‘1xtra,’ ‘Kiss FM,’ and ‘BBC Asia.’ She received a lot of attention due to her unique grime and hip-hop style. She uploaded the first video of the series on ‘YouTube’ in February 2015 under the title ‘’Lady Leshurr – Queen’s Speech Ep.1.’ The upload received more than 7 million views on ‘YouTube.’ The second and third part received around 7 million views too, but the fourth part of the series was viewed more than 50 million times. The sixth part of the series was released in 2016, and was viewed more than 6 million times. In the same year, she also released another EP under the title ‘Queen’s Speech.’ In 2017, she dropped her next EP, titled ‘Mode.’ She has also released various songs on her ‘YouTube’ channel such as ‘On the Road’, ‘R.I.P,’ and ‘OMW.’ She has also been featured in a number of songs since 2011. She collaborated with ‘Fire Camp’ in the song ‘Move’ in 2011 followed by another feature in ‘Murder’ by Lea-Anna. In the same year, she was featured in Leon & Harvey’s song ‘Finally’ as well as Orbital’s song called ‘Wonky.’ In 2012, she started with a feature in Elta Bond and Raf Riley in ‘Boring Bitches. She also collaborated with ‘Noisses’ in ‘Run Your Mouth,’ Mike Delinquet Project in ‘Step in the Dance’ and Vince Kid in ‘Sick Love.’ In 2013, she collaborated with ‘Torqux’ in ‘Blazin’, Young O in ‘Bet On It,’ and J.
