Childhood & Early Life

Mandie Taketa was born on March 3, 1976, in Hawaii, USA. Her father, Ronald Taketa, is a Japanese immigrant and serves as the executive secretary and treasurer of the Hawaii Carpenters Union. Her mother, of European descent, passed away when Taketa was 11 years old after living with an oxygen tank for 11 years.

From a young age, Taketa showed interest in dancing, martial arts, and performing. Her father played an active role in her upbringing and she began training in martial arts with him as her sensei at the age of five. She not only competed in tournaments but also officiated in several matches. Her younger sister, Kristie, also started participating in martial arts competitions in 2009.

While Taketa enjoyed martial arts, she gave more importance to dancing. She took dancing lessons as a child and received a full dance scholarship from the University of Hawaii after graduating from high school. However, she dropped out after one year and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional dancer and actor.


Mandie Taketa is an accomplished dancer and has won several fitness competitions as a bodybuilder. She is also qualified to work as a yoga instructor and physical therapist. However, her acting career did not take off and she only had a small role in the 2007 film ‘ManBand! the Movie’.

Taketa is also a successful entrepreneur. She has been a body technician at Adell Body Works since February 2003 and has been the creative brain behind This Lifetime since November 1995. In October 2011, she established Everything Did Productions and currently serves as the company’s CEO.

Mandie Taketa married Wayne Brady, an American actor and comedian, on April 3, 1999. They have a daughter named Maile Masako, born on February 3, 2003. However, the couple separated in 2006 and Taketa filed for divorce on July 2, 2007. The divorce was finalized on April 14, 2008.

Brady has spoken about how Taketa helped him deal with his depression and they have decided to raise their daughter together. Taketa even bought a house in Brady’s neighborhood to make co-parenting more efficient.
