Childhood & Early Life
Marc Mezvinsky was born on December 15, 1977, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Edward Mezvinsky and Marjorie Margolies. Both his parents were members of the ‘U.S. House of Representatives’ from the ‘Democratic Party.’ Marc grew up with 10 siblings, five of whom were adopted. His mother became the first single American woman to adopt a foreign child in 1970. Marc had the freedom of choice during his upbringing and was accustomed to his parents bringing home homeless refugees and taking care of their basic needs.
Education
Marc excelled academically and graduated from high school before enrolling at Stanford University. In 2000, he graduated with a degree in religious studies and philosophy. He then pursued a Master of Arts degree in politics, philosophy, and economics at Pembroke College in Oxford.
Career
After graduating, Marc began working at Goldman Sachs as an emerging markets foreign exchange strategist. He later moved to the global macro proprietary trading desk at Goldman Sachs. After eight years with the company, Marc resigned to pursue better opportunities in an equity firm. In 2008, he joined ‘3G Capital Management’ as a senior partner. However, he resigned from the company in the same year.
Marc then started his own hedge fund, ‘Eaglevale Partners,’ which focused on commodities, currencies, and bonds. The company experienced rapid growth and expanded its business in Greece by starting a Greek-focused fund named ‘Eaglevale Hellenic Opportunity’ in 2014. However, the fund was shut down in 2016 after losing 90 percent of its value. In December 2016, ‘Eaglevale Partners’ was permanently shut down.
Controversies
Marc faced accusations of using his influence from the Clinton family to raise funds for his company. ‘WikiLeaks’ documents released in 2016 revealed that Marc had invited Clinton’s wealthy friends to a ‘Clinton Foundation’ poker event to raise money for his investment company. It was also alleged that Marc’s wife, Chelsea, had made calls to set up potential investors who were supporters of the Clinton family. Further investigation revealed that most of the investors in ‘Eaglevale Partners’ were family friends or acquaintances of the Clintons.
Current Work and Personal Life
After ‘Eaglevale Partners’ shut down, Marc took a job as the vice chairman of ‘Social Capital,’ where he focused on improving the company’s portfolio and overall business development. Marc is also involved in several charity organizations and serves on the boards of ‘Pembroke College Foundation,’ ‘Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases,’ and ‘Madison Square Park Conservancy.’
Marc’s strong ties with the Clintons have often caused controversy, with accusations of him being an ‘opportunist’ for using his wife’s family name. Marc and Chelsea have been married since 2010 and have two children together, Charlotte and Aidan.
