Personal Life

Melissa Heholt is an American who grew up in New Jersey. She is the oldest of four children and attended St. John’s University in Queens, New York. It was during her time at university that she met her future husband, rapper J. Cole. The couple had a relationship that lasted almost a decade before they got married in 2015. They have a daughter together, although they are very private about their personal life and kept their marriage a secret for a long time. In fact, it was only revealed during an interview in 2016 when director Ryan Coogler accidentally let it slip.

Despite her passion for event planning, Melissa initially decided to become a teacher after finishing high school. However, she was influenced by the belief that teaching didn’t offer a high salary, so she pursued a degree in business instead. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in health administration, she held several unfulfilling jobs before going back to school to get a master’s degree in elementary education. She enjoyed her time as a teacher but grew unhappy with the state of the education system in the US.

Eventually, Melissa realized that event planning was her true passion. In 2014, she founded Statice Events, a successful event planning business that focuses on providing an intimate planning experience for clients. She is also the executive director of her husband’s charity initiative, Dreamville Foundation, which helps young people realize their potential through positive experiences.

In her spare time, Melissa enjoys traveling, cooking, shopping, and trying out new cuisines. She has recently developed an interest in florals and has taken an apprenticeship with Makini Regal Designs.
