The Meteoric Rise To Stardom
Nia began dancing at the age of three and joined Dance Moms when she was 10. Nia has been interested in music since she was a child. She can play the piano and the drums, and is also a songwriter. During 2015, she released a few songs and music videos which earned her the status of a verified artist on Spotify. After being offered a role in the off-Broadway show ‘Trip of Love’, she moved to New York in June, 2016, with her mother, and started preparing for her stage appearance which was scheduled for the next month.
Growing up in New York City, Nia had the opportunity to watch 4-5 Broadway shows every year. She had always wanted to be a Broadway actor. She acknowledged that the invite from the off-Broadway show was a dream come true for her. Nia landed the role on her own, without any intervention from her dance coach Abby Lee Miller, who had connections there. Nia clarified in an interview that the creator, choreographer and director of ‘Trip of Love’, James Walski, who has been a fan of Dance Moms, picked her up to be a part of the show. Her musical numbers included her opening act “Wipe Out”, ‘fun’ upbeat number “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” and a featured ballet duet, “Moon River”, which is her favorite as the piece was re-choreographed for her.
What Makes Nia Sioux Frazier So Special
Nia’s hard work has made her a fan favorite in the dance show. She usually performs contemporary and musical theatre dance numbers and is often placed at the bottom of the pyramid. Nia intends to be a ‘triple threat’ by being a successful dancer, singer and an actor. She takes voice and acting lessons every week to prepare for her career goals. According to Nia, who is new to acting, acting is not too hard for her as “you’re acting while you’re dancing”. She feels that you need to show emotions while dancing, and you need to bring “those emotions into words” when you are acting.
Nia says she is never too busy to get in touch with her friends. Not only she hangs out with other ‘Dance Moms’ participants on her off-days, she remained friends with almost all the former participants that left the show at some point of time. She also likes to take time off her busy schedule to get in touch with her fans on various social media sites. She has 3.7 million followers on Instagram and 486k followers on Twitter.
Beyond Fame
After Nia landed a role in the off-Broadway show, ‘Trip of Love’, there were rumors of her leaving the dance reality show ‘Dance Moms’ during its sixth season. Considering how many of the participants left the show either due to altercations with Abby Lee Miller or after getting success outside the show, Nia and her close friend JoJo Siwa were thought to be the next ones in line. While her relationship with Abby has not always been smooth, Nia still credits her coach for whatever she has learned, and she stayed on the show for season 6. Later, her busy schedule cast shadow over the show’s seventh season. However, reports say that she has been spotted with other members of the show during the filming of season 7.
