Perez Hilton, born as Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., was born on March 23, 1978, in Miami, Florida. He was born to Cuban parents Mario Sr. and Teresita Lavandeira. When he was 15 years old, his father passed away from a brain aneurysm, just one week after his grandfather’s death. Perez attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami, an all-boys Catholic school, and graduated in 1996. He received a scholarship to New York University and earned his B.F.A. in Drama from The Tisch School of the Arts in May 2000.

Career

In the early 2000s, Perez Hilton worked as a publishing manager for the LGBT rights organization GLAAD and was the managing editor of the gay men’s magazine ‘Instinct’. He also worked as a freelance writer for gay publications and as a receptionist at the NYC gay events club Urban Outings. Perez made his first television appearance on the episode ‘Fortunate Son’ in the third season of ‘The Sopranos’ in 2001. He also acted in the short film ‘Help Wanted’ and the horror movie ‘Campfire Stories’ in the same year.

Perez started his blog, PageSixSixSix.com, in September 2004. Within six months, the blog gained notoriety as ‘Hollywood’s Most-Hated Website’ after being reported on by ‘The Insider’ on March 11, 2005.
