Raqesh Bapat, an Indian actor and former model, has made a name for himself in both Hindi and Marathi movies. With a successful career in modeling, he won prestigious titles such as ‘Mr. Pune,’ ‘Grasim Mr. India’ first runner-up, and ‘Mr. International’ first runner-up. Childhood & Early Life

Raqesh was born Rakesh Vashisth on September 1, 1978, in Mumbai, India. His father was a captain in the Indian Navy and his mother was an English teacher. He has a sister named Sheetal Vashisth. Raqesh attended primary school in Amravati, Maharashtra, and later earned his MBA degree from the University of Mumbai.

Modeling Career

Raqesh began his modeling career in his late teens and won the Mr. Pune contest. At the age of 21, he became the first runner-up at the Grasim Mr. India contest held in Kolkata. He also represented India at the Mr. International contest in Germany and secured the first runner-up position. Raqesh modeled for well-known brands such as Colgate and Wrigley’s.

Acting Career

Raqesh’s impressive performance in a Colgate commercial earned him his debut movie role as Amar Shah in the 2001 Hindi romantic drama Tum Bin…: Love Will Find a Way. He went on to appear in several films, including Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Sandhya, Tumse Milke… Wrong Number, Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya, Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai, and Naam Gum Jaayega.

In 2005, Raqesh made his television debut with the drama series Saat Phere… Saloni Ka Safar, where he gained overnight fame for his role as Neel/Neerav. He also appeared in films such as Jai Santoshi Maa and Jaadu Sa Chal Gaya. In 2008, he became part of the TV series Ek Packet Umeed as Anuj.

Raqesh continued to work in both films and television. He played various roles in movies such as Heroine, Aayna Ka Bayna, Gippi, A New Ishtory, and Citizen. On television, he portrayed characters in shows like Hongey Judaa Na Hum, Qubool Hai, Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, and Tu Aashiqui.

Family & Personal Life

Raqesh changed his surname from “Vashisth” to “Bapat” earlier, but later changed it back to “Vashisth” at his mother’s request. He met actor Ridhi Dogra on the sets of Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak? and they got married in 2012. However, they divorced amicably in 2019 and remain friends. Raqesh has various hobbies including painting, sculpting, singing, playing musical instruments, horseback riding, and playing tennis. He supports the non-profit organization Shyamchi Aai Foundation along with his sister.

Trivia

Two of Raqesh’s movies, Sila and Hayaa, made in 2002 and 2003, were shelved and never released. He was also offered to be a contestant on the reality show Bigg Boss.
