Childhood & Early Life

Robin Sharma was born on June 16, 1964, in Uganda to Indian parents Shiv Sharma and Shashi Sharma. When he was a year old, his family moved to Canada. His father, a physician, and his mother, a teacher, had a significant influence on him as a child. Sharma was encouraged to follow his dreams and act on his ideas.

Education

Sharma attended the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in Canada. He completed his LLB and LLM degrees.

Career

After completing his education, Sharma worked as a judicial clerk at the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. He then joined the Canadian Government as a staff litigation attorney. However, his desire to write persisted. Motivated by his father, Sharma wrote his first book, “Megaliving: 30 Days to a Perfect Life,” in 1994. Although the book was self-published and did not achieve success initially, Sharma did not give up on his dream.

His second book, “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari,” was also self-published but later picked up by Harper Collins Publishers. The book became an international sensation, selling over three million copies and being translated into 51 languages. Sharma continued to write and publish books, including “Who Will Cry When You Die,” “The Leader Who Had No Title,” and “The 5AM Club.”

Sharma is also the CEO of Sharma Leadership International, a training company that conducts sessions for employees and managers of Fortune 500 companies.

Sharma has received recognition for his work. In 2007, he was named among the top five leadership gurus in the world by Speaking.com. In 2011, he was awarded the Golden Gavel honor by Toastmasters International. He also holds the sixth position on the list of the Global Gurus Top 30 Leadership Professionals of 2019.
