Scarlxrd, born Marius Listhrop on June 19, 1994, in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, grew up with a younger sister named Claire. As a child, he practiced kickboxing and later studied media production in college. However, he eventually decided to pursue a career in music.

Musical Influences

During his upbringing, Scarlxrd looked up to artists such as Eminem, Nelly, and Missy Elliot as his musical influences. He was particularly inspired by bands like ‘Linkin Park’ and ‘Rage Against the Machine,’ which led him to start his own band.

Early Career

In April 2012, Scarlxrd created his YouTube channel, ‘TheMazziMaz,’ when he was just a teenager. He uploaded vlogs from his bedroom, mostly for comedic purposes. His first video, titled ‘Ask Maz,’ gained attention, and his ‘Epic Fries Challenge’ video became one of the most-viewed videos on his channel. He also collaborated with other YouTubers to promote his channel.

From 2013 to 2014, Scarlxrd embarked on a comedy-music tour called the ‘WDGAF Tour,’ performing around the world.

Career

In 2014, Scarlxrd decided to change his image and pursue a new career. He founded the nu metal/rap rock band ‘Myth City’ and became the lead vocalist. The band’s music, a mix of rap and hard metal, was described as “trap metal” by Scarlxrd himself. Despite receiving mixed reviews, his vocal style resonated with his fans. ‘Myth City’ released their first EP in 2015.

After joining the band, Scarlxrd changed his name from “Maz” to “Scarlxrd” and released his single ‘Girlfriend’ in 2016. He continued to release albums, including ‘スカー藩主’ and ‘Rxse’ in 2016, and ‘Cabin Fever,’ ‘Chaxsthexry,’ and ‘Lxrdszn’ in 2017. Since April 2017, Scarlxrd has been wearing his signature mask in his music videos, inspired by the Japanese manga ‘Tokyo Ghoul.’

In 2018, Scarlxrd released his sixth studio album, ‘Dxxm,’ under ‘Island Records.’ He also collaborated with other artists and performed at the 2018 ‘Reading and Leeds Festivals.’
