Shin Se-kyung was born on July 29, 1990, in Yangcheon, a district of Seoul, South Korea. She studied at the Shinmok High School before enrolling at the Chung-Ang University, where she majored in Performing Arts.
Career
Shin Se-kyung began her career as an elementary school student when she appeared on the poster and cover of the legendary singer Seo Taiji’s fifth album ‘Take Five’ in 1999. She then got her first small screen role in SBS’s ‘The Land’ (2004) and made her film debut in ‘My Little Bride’ (2004). She gained recognition for her performance in the horror film ‘Cinderella’ (2006), which criticized the Asian perception of beauty and plastic surgery.
In the following years, Shin appeared in various films and TV dramas, including ‘Five Senses of Eros’ (2009), ‘Acoustic’ (2010), ‘Queen Seondeok’ (2009), ‘Tree with Deep Roots’ (2011), and ‘R2B: Return to Base’ (2012). She faced some setbacks with the failure of ‘Fashion King’ (2012) and criticism for her role in ‘When a Man Falls in Love’ (2013). In 2014, Shin was named the goodwill ambassador for UNESCO’s Korea Commission to commemorate its 60th anniversary. She is recognized for her contributions in promoting Korean culture and education, especially through her role in ‘Tree with Deep Roots’.
