Childhood & Early Life
Slim Jimmy, whose real name is Aaquil Brown, was born on December 29, 1993, in California. At a young age, he moved with his family to the housing projects in Tupelo, Ida Street. Growing up in a neighborhood immersed in crime, he was exposed to murder, rape, and drugs from a young age. His parents split up shortly after moving to Tupelo, and he and his siblings had to move from one home to another in search of shelter.
Career
Slim Jimmy first gained attention when he participated in the R&B and hip hop show “106 and Park” on BET. He performed with his band, Dem Outta St8 Boyz, and came in second place. Although they met with major recording labels like Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music, they did not sign any deals. After the show, the third member of the band left, and Slim Jimmy and his brother formed their own hip-hop/rap duo. In 2014, Slim Jimmy signed his first record deal with Ear Drummers Entertainment and changed the duo’s name to Rae Sremmurd. They released their debut album, “Sremm Life,” in January 2015, which included the hit single “No Flex Zone.” The album ranked number 5 on the US Billboard 200. They continued to release successful singles, including “No Type” and “Throw Sum Mo.” In 2016, they released their second album, “SremmLife2,” which featured the number one hit single “Black Beatles.”
