Sung Hoon Biography

Sung Hoon, a South Korean actor known for his versatile and leading roles in various television series, had a different path before entering the world of acting. As a national swim team member specializing in butterfly stroke, Hoon’s swimming career came to an end due to a spinal injury. However, destiny had other plans for him, leading him to make his acting debut in the 2011 TV series ‘New Tales of Gisaeng’. This breakthrough role earned him recognition, awards, and paved the way for other prominent roles. Hoon has also made a big screen appearance and is a gifted musical Disc jockey, performing under the stage name ROI.

Childhood & Early Life

Hoon was born on February 14, 1983, in Nam District, Daegu, South Korea. Not much is known about his early life and family background, except that he attended Yong In University where he studied Social and Physical Education. Hoon is a talented swimmer who remained a national swim team member for fourteen years. However, he had to leave the team after suffering a spinal injury. He then resolved to serve in the military, but his spinal injury prevented him from continuing with such service.

Career

Although Hoon had no early experience in either modeling or acting, he made his debut in acting with the role of Ah Da-mo in the South Korean TV series ‘New Tales of Gisaeng’. This role became his breakthrough and shot him to limelight. He then landed his first Chinese drama titled ‘The Bodyguard’ in 2012. Hoon continued to appear in various South Korean TV dramas, including ‘Faith’, ‘The Birth of a Family’, and ‘Passionate Love’. In 2015, he gained popularity for his role as chaebol Lee Kang Hoon in the web series ‘Noble, My Love’. Hoon also appeared in the rom-com drama TV series ‘Oh My Venus’ as pro-boxer Jang Joon-sung.

Apart from acting, Hoon is also a gifted disc jockey and performs under the stage name ROI. He has showcased his talent in several countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Film and Television

Hoon starred as Kim Sang-min in the South Korean drama series ‘Five Enough’ and earned the Best New Actor award at the 30th KBS Drama Awards in 2016. He made his big screen debut in the film ‘Come Back to Busan Port’ in 2016. Hoon then played the leading role of Cha Jin-wook in the television series ‘My Secret Romance’. He also appeared in the TV drama series ‘The Idolmaster KR’ as Kang Shin-hyuk.

Hoon has appeared on several reality and variety shows, including Let’s Go! Dream Team Season 2, Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education, Running Man, Law of the Jungle, and I Live Alone.

Global Fan Meeting Tour

In June 2017, Hoon and his ‘My Secret Romance’ co-star Song Ji-eun attended a fan meeting in Seoul. It was also reported that he would embark on a Global Fan Meeting Tour, traveling to thirteen countries to hold fan meetings. The tour is expected to start in Thailand and end in Seoul, South Korea, with stops in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, UAE (Dubai), US, and Canada.
