Ortiz went on to defend his title five times in three years, defeating fighters like Yuki Kondo, Evan Tanner, Elvis Sinosic, Vladimir Matyushenko, and Ken Shamrock. However, his title reign came to an end when he lost to Randy Couture at UFC 44. Ortiz faced more defeats and victories in his career, eventually resigning from UFC in 2008 due to frustrations with UFC President Dana White.
