YNW Melly, born Jamell Maurice Demons on May 1, 1999, in Gifford, Florida, grew up in a financially backward family. He had a younger brother and lived in a neighborhood considered to be one of the most dangerous in America. Despite the chaos around him, Jamell developed an interest in music at a young age, influenced by singers like Chris Brown and Michael Jackson. He started singing at family gatherings when he was just 5 years old and received appreciation that motivated him to pursue a career in music. In eighth grade, he recorded his first rap and started uploading his music on social media platforms, gaining local fame.
Career
While in prison for assault charges at the age of 16, Jamell became serious about his career as a rapper. He wrote lyrics based on his experiences growing up in a dangerous neighborhood. After his release, he recorded songs like “Murder on My Mind,” which became a local hit but also led to legal trouble due to its violent content. Despite criticism for glorifying violence, Jamell continued to produce music with catchy tunes and released his debut mixtape, “I Am You,” in August 2018. The mixtape received positive reviews and established him as a rising artist. He also released an EP titled “Collect Call EP” featuring other artists.

In June 2018, he purchased a mansion but was later arrested for possession of drugs and firearms. Currently, Melly is believed to be single.
